ABOUT US

Visibility isn't a trend we chased.
It's what we've done since 1998.

clearlisted is a search and visibility practice for US small and medium businesses — roofers, HVAC contractors, plumbers, electricians, restoration crews, local shops, workshops, manufacturers — built on more than twenty-five years of paying attention to how customers find businesses online. No agency bloat. No vendor lock-in. No twelve-month contracts to find out it didn't work.

SINCE 1998

The first time the search industry had a face.

Our founder Werner Laske had been working in search optimization since 1998 — back when most US businesses were still deciding whether they needed a website at all, and most agencies didn't know there was a discipline called "search optimization."

In late 1999, he flew from Germany to San Francisco for the very first Search Engine Strategies conference, organized by industry pioneer Danny Sullivan. That conference changed something. For the first time, the CTOs and engineering leads of the major search engines — Yahoo, Infoseek, AltaVista, and others — sat on the same stage, in front of the same audience. And the audience was the people who'd been gaming their algorithms from the outside: SEO practitioners, agencies, early specialists.

For the first time, both sides had faces. The search engines saw who was reverse-engineering their rankings. The agencies saw the humans behind the systems they'd been working blind against. The questions from the floor got specific fast — including a memorable session where adult-site operators asked the search engineers, openly and in detail, what they should be doing differently to rank. Nobody had ever had that conversation in the same room before. After that conference, search optimization stopped being a hobbyist trick and started becoming a profession.

At the next table during one of the sessions, a young Stanford computer scientist was handing out flyers for a search engine he was building with a classmate. His name was Larry Page. The search engine was Google.

Werner came back from San Francisco knowing two things: the rules of how customers find businesses were about to change permanently, and most companies wouldn't be ready. More than twenty-five years later, the names have changed — Google replaced AltaVista, ChatGPT and Perplexity now sit alongside Google, mobile search outgrew desktop, AI Overviews changed how results display — but the underlying job hasn't. Help businesses get found by the people looking for them. Show them honestly what's working and what isn't. Don't dress it up.

For most of the years since, this work has happened behind agency doors. In the early years, SEO was a hard sell to small business owners — explaining why a search ranking mattered took longer than doing the work itself. And the people we had were technicians: good at the work, not built for cold sales.

We made a choice: spend our time on what we knew how to do, not on convincing people it was worth doing. So we partnered with agencies. They handled the client conversations. We handled the search work.

Our team became the search practice that other firms hired when their clients needed real rankings, real GEO strategy, real local-listings work. The agencies got the credit. We got the experience — and a portfolio that NDA agreements keep us from naming.

In 2026, we set up clearlisted LLC in the United States to work directly with US small and medium businesses. Same practitioners. Same methods. No middleman, no agency markup, no client-services layer between you and the people doing the work.

HOW WE WORK

A specialist team, not an agency apparatus.

clearlisted isn't a big agency with project managers, account executives, and a client services layer between you and the people doing the work. We're a lean specialist team — twelve people across web design, SEO, GEO (the new optimization for AI search), Google Business Profile management, and local listings.

The team works across multiple timezones, which means monitoring runs around the clock and response times are shorter than most local agencies can match. But every client gets one US-based account lead — a single person who knows your business, picks up the phone, and is responsible for the work. You won't get bounced between four people who each know one piece of your account.

That structure exists for a reason: small and medium businesses don't have time for agency overhead. You need someone who understands what you're trying to do, makes the call, and gets it done.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe in visibility that brings measurable customers.

Plenty of agencies build pretty websites. Some do SEO. Few understand GEO. We combine all of it — because isolated tactics produce isolated results.

01 · SEO-FIRST

Ranking strategy from day one

Every website we build has a ranking strategy from day one. Not as an afterthought, as the foundation. If a site can't be found, it doesn't matter how it looks.

02 · GEO-READY

Optimized for AI search, not just Google

We optimize not just for Google, but for AI search engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews. The businesses that aren't cited there are losing a fast-growing audience. We make sure you're cited.

03 · LOCALLY ANCHORED

Where your customers actually look

Google Business Profile. Directory listings. NAP consistency across the web. We make sure your business shows up everywhere your customers actually look — in your service area, in your zip code, in the searches that matter.

04 · MEASURABLE

No reports without numbers

No promises without proof. The DigitalCHECK shows you exactly where you stand — and exactly where the opportunity is. You see the data, you make the call.

WHY THIS MATTERS NOW

We see what's coming, because we've been watching since 1998.

Here's something most US contractors don't think about: search behavior changes in waves, and the waves usually start in tech-forward markets and spread outward. Voice search, mobile-first indexing, local pack changes, AI Overviews — each of these moved from "early adopter" to "everyone" in eighteen to thirty-six months.

clearlisted has been watching those waves since 1998. We attend the SMX and PubCon conferences in Las Vegas every year — not as visitors, but as practitioners testing what works before it becomes common practice. When AI search arrived, we'd already been preparing for it. When the next shift happens, we'll be ready for that too.

For your roofing business, your HVAC company, your shop or workshop, that means one thing: you don't have to guess what to invest in. We've already tested it.
